Our Kennel

Vigilante Griffons is located just outside of Helena — the capital of Montana — on 20 quiet acres of rangeland and forested trails.

Our kennel currently has two wirehaired pointing griffons that enjoy the open spaces of Big Sky country. We started our kennel with our first Griff, Murf, 11 years ago with only a vague idea of their potential as field dogs and as members of our family. Once we had our daughter, we knew that the wirehaired pointing griffon was the only dog that had a place in our family.

Murf is a proven hunter, companion and mentor to our younger griffon, Midge. Midge is steadily proving her worth in the field as well as in confirmation. Our dogs enjoy any chance we can get them afield and they relish any opportunity to prove themselves while training. Our dogs hunt primarily upland birds and waterfowl.

As avid hunters, we strive to take advantage of all the hunting opportunities that can be had in Montana and neighboring states 4 months out of the year. When we are not hunting, we participate in hunt training and testing. Wirehaired pointing griffons are truly a 4-season outdoor companion. Our dogs also train and hunt during various bird seasons in Montana, Idaho, and North Dakota.

Our Breeding Programs

The primary focus of our breeding program is to breed a wirehaired pointing griffon that maintains the North American breed standard, is a versatile hunting dog with strong natural instinct, is healthy and of solid temperament and displays all the abilities which make a griffon a true companion both in the field and in the home.

We are selective in our breeding process to ensure that dogs are versatile in all aspects of training and hunting conditions, have strong prey drive, and are just as content being a member of your family.

Our Bitch is NAVHDA natural ability tested (NA I 112 points) and has earned an AKC hunt test (JH) leg. completion of this title will be completed in 20-17. She is x-rayed using the Penn Hip method to determine the amount of hip laxity and to minimize possible hip dysplasia of her offspring.

Our dogs are an integral part of our family and are well socialized and have received the title of Canine Good Citizen (CGC) as well as participating in owner-handled conformation training and events in hopes of receiving a Champion (CH) title.

Prior to breeding, the Bitch will be given a complete physical to ensure she is in top health and suitable for breeding. The stud dog will be chosen to maintain breed standards, ensure strong hunting ability, health, and must compliment the Bitch. We strive to improve the breed by carefully selecting a pairing that supports the breed standard in the field, temperament, and in health.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffons

How to determine if a Griff is the right dog for you?

A wirehaired pointing griffon is known as a driven and intelligent gentlemen’s hunting partner that thrives on pleasing their handler. Griffons are easily trained as a hunting dog as their instinct for hunting is strong. It does not take much effort to coax out the dogs natural abilities and refine the dog to be a great hunter.

Griffons are a gentle, family oriented breed that aim to please. They are just as happy in the field or training as they are just being a part of day to day routines of their owners. Please contact us if you have any questions about the breed, or visit www.awpga.org or www.akc.org for more detailed breed information.
